Combining 28+ Years Of Experience In Conventional Healthcare With Lifestyle And Functional Medicine.
Theresa began her career in 1995 as an active duty hospital corpsman (medic) in the United States Navy, where she served for six years, before entering the Army National Guard where she served as a combat medic for two years.
Once discharged from the military, Theresa worked as a nursing assistant while attending nursing school at Florida State, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing in 2007.
She obtained a master's degree in nursing education from Liberty University in 2012 and is currently working on her doctorate in nursing with an expected graduation date of 2026.
During her career, Theresa worked in a variety of healthcare settings including orthopedics, sports medicine, pediatrics, medical/surgical, psychiatric/mental health, critical care, home health, and hospice.
Theresa currently works as a hospice nurse in addition to her work with Empower and Flourish.
Theresa and her husband, Lawrence, currently live in Lynchburg, Virginia with their French Bulldog puppy Cooper.
Lawerence is a first-year law student at Liberty and plans to practice Constitutional Law.
Together, Theresa and Lawerence have five grown children, three daughter-in-laws, and two grandsons. They enjoy traveling and spending time with each other and their family as much as possible.
Theresa and Lawrence attend church at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg and are members of Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis, Maryland.
Both Theresa and Lawerence have a passion for helping others and for following God's direction, constantly seeking his will for their lives. They have no idea where they will live once they graduate from school but they feel drawn to the water, having lived on a sailboat for 2 years.
Lawrence and I have been Christians since we were young, but in 2016 we prayed that really scary prayer that sounds something like this: "Lord, here's our lives. We want to go wherever, and do whatever you ask" and we meant it. That prayer eventually led us to live on a broken-down, fixer-upper sailboat where we were basically camping at sea. This was one of the most difficult and one of the most beautiful adventures of our lives. We returned to land in 2023 to attend school but miss the freedom and adventure of the sea.
We had to put our sweet Odin to sleep in the spring of 2022 and prayed for God to send us the right dog to fill that hole in our hearts. In March of 2023 God led us to find Cooper. This Frenchie is a LOT to handle! He is full of energy and wants to be walked multiple times a day despite what the weather is doing outside. Without him, I highly doubt I would reach my daily step goal. Cooper enjoys playing soccer with his tennis balls and snuggling with his daddy. He just celebrated his first birthday on January 6, 2024.
